The Ledger
THE LEDGER – SYNOPSIS
1954
Deep in the woods, sheltered away in a convent, a young girl, about to give birth, screams in pain but receives no sympathy. Too many years have passed, and too many wayward girls have come through their doors for the nuns to care any longer.
1994
Monica cries out in pain as her husband’s fist slams into her face, and she drops to the floor.
Hope answers her front door, and a shot rings out, barely missing her head.
Monica didn’t go to work today. She’s soaking in the tub, trying to ease the pain from her battered body.
Hope isn’t having a good day. Someone just tried to kill her, and she’s almost sure she knows who it was.
This is a story about sisters - unaware that the other exists – in toxic marriages - alone – afraid - and feeling helpless.
Until, that is - one day, they meet, and a plan is born.
Excerpt From The Ledger
Taken From Chapter Seven
Hope stopped the car and stared at a large four-story brick building about six hundred feet in front of her. As she continued driving, she noticed a dozen or more small white crosses in a field to the left of the convent.
She pulled up to the front of the building and turned off the car. She glanced around, and if she hadn’t known that people still lived there, she would have thought it was a deserted building. Gathering every inch of courage she could muster, Hope exited the car, walked to the massive front door, and rang the bell.
